Senegal, June 2025 – Thanks to impactful Jappo sports organisation and their program initiative, CISA Youth the youth across Senegal are gaining greater access to sport and opportunities to learn about the benefit of nurturing a healthy body and mind. On Saturday, June 15, over 600 children from Djiddah Thiaroye Kao, a municipality about 20 km from Dakar, took part in the latest CISA Youth event.
With the support of key partners including the Municipality of Djiddah Thiaroye Kao, Jappo Sports, the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ACNOA), the Conférence des Ministres de la Jeunesse et des Sports de la Francophonie (CONFEJES), and numerous national sports federations, the local youth actively took part in gymnastics, badminton, and athletics activities, along with workshops focused on mental well-being and the importance of leading a balanced, healthy lifestyle.
This event is part of the broader CISA Youth initiative, the legacy program of the Convention Internationale du Sport en Afrique (CISA). Established in 2007, CISA is a continental platform committed to advancing the role of sport in Africa’s socio-economic and cultural development. Throughout the year, CISA Youth teams up with local federations and partners to deliver sport and education programs, mainly targeting underserved districts with limited infrastructure.
Earlier this year, United Through Sports (UTS) partnered with CISA Youth during the CISA 2025 Forum, marking UTS’s first active engagement in Senegal and Africa laying the groundwork for long-term collaboration in the lead-up to the Youth Olympic Games Dakar 2026 (YOG Dakar 2026). Working alongside Jappo Sport, various national federations including the Senegalese Muaythai Federation, and Special Olympics Senegal, UTS and CISA Youth delivered an inclusive youth program during the Convention. Children of all abilities were invited to explore popular sports like football, fencing, dance, while also discovering new ones such as martial arts including Muaythai, ensuring every participant had the chance to play, learn, and connect.
With past editions hosted in countries such as Nigeria, Ethiopia, South Africa, Egypt, Algeria, and Morocco, CISA has built a legacy of uniting stakeholders to strengthen grassroots and elite sport, foster education, and promote cooperation across the African continent. We were honored to take part in this influential event, marking a successful and impactful first presence for UTS in Africa, ahead of the 2026 Youth Olympic Games.
UTS President Stephan Fox said:
“As President of United Through Sports and AIMS, I commend the outstanding work of Jappo in Senegal, particularly in the lead-up to the Youth Olympic Games in 2026. Youth sport development in Africa plays a vital role in promoting health, education, inclusion, and peace. It empowers young people of all abilities, creates opportunities, steers them away from crime, and strengthens unity. Investing in youth and sport is a true investment in Africa’s future.”
UTS is proud to count CISA Youth as a strong partner in Africa, and we applaud their ongoing work in providing the youth with opportunities through sport and education.
We look forward to continued collaboration in service of the youth, on the road to Dakar 2026, and beyond.
