UTS-KOREA holds 2024 General Assembly

Seoul, May 2024 – The 2024 General Assembly and Appointment Ceremony of UTS-KOREA took place at Gangseo University in Seoul on May 25th 2024, underlining its commitment to the mission of “United Through Sports (UTS).

UTS-KOREA is a newer addition to the network of UTS as it operates as a South Korean charity organization with the support of UTS President Stephan Fox and CEO Julia Govinden.

United Through Sports (UTS) promotes social inclusion for youth of all abilities through the power of sport, education, and health. UTS was founded under the Alliance of Independent Recognized Members of Sports (AIMS), one of the four umbrella bodies recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). Annually, UTS organizes the World Youth Festival under the patronage of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) and the Special Olympics International (SOI).

UTS-KOREA focuses on the South Korea region, promoting and continuing UTS’s mission to inspire youth through sports. By organizing events, workshops, and community outreach programs, UTS-KOREA strives to ensure unity and inclusion, as well as promote a healthy and active lifestyle among Korean youth.

During the assembly, UTS-KOREA appointed new technical directors and executive board members. President Jong-cheol Wu presented the appointment letters to the newly inducted officials, including Senior Vice-President Dr. Keon-sik Heo, Vice-President Dr. Seong-bae Kong, Advisory Commissioner Dr. Nam-seok Seong, and Advisors Byeong-cheon Ahn and Yong-seon Lee.

Advisor Ahn, CEO of DAEWOO Fashion Group, chairs several international organizations, including the International Model Association and the UNESCO World Heritage Exhibition Organizing Committee. Advisor Lee is a member of the Korean National Assembly. Advisory Commissioner Dr. Seong is a rehabilitation medical doctor and head of Seoul Big Tree Hospital. Senior Vice-President Dr. Heo serves on the executive board of the World Martial Arts Masterships Committee, and Vice-President Dr. Kong is the vice-dean of the Martial Arts College at Yong-in University.

Chairman Chang-jin Lim acknowledged the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic but expressed optimism about the future, stating,

“Although UTS-KOREA’s external performance has been limited, I believe the newly appointed technical directors will drive significant progress.”
