At UTS, our mission is anchored in the belief that sport is a universal language, one that transcends borders, abilities, and backgrounds. As we approach April 2nd, World Autism Awareness Day, we are reflecting on what “inclusion” truly means.
It isn’t just a policy; it’s a commitment to ensuring every young person has a seat at the table and a place on the field. No one embodies this mission more than our friend and collaborator, Ben Haack.
Who is Ben Haack?
Ben is a powerhouse in the world of inclusive sport. Based in Australia, his influence stretches globally through his leadership roles within Special Olympics and Gold Coast Sport and Recreation.
Ben’s journey with UTS began in 2019 at our Gold Coast Festival. Those who were there will never forget his closing keynote. He spoke with a raw, insightful clarity on why inclusion isn’t “charity,” but a vital necessity for community growth. Today, Ben continues to support UTS by sharing his expert knowledge on inclusion strategies and best practices, ensuring that Equity, a core pillar of UTS, remains at the heart of everything we do.

A New Chapter: “Reason for Hope”
This April 2nd, Ben is moving beyond the podium and onto the bookshelf. He is officially releasing his new book: “Reason for Hope: A Guide to Raising Happy, Resilient Kids.”
This isn’t a typical clinical manual. Instead, the book is a deeply personal series of letters written to families who are navigating the journey of raising a child with a disability. Ben shares his own lived experience to provide guidance, wisdom, and stories designed to light the way for others.
What to Expect from the Book:
- A Personal Roadmap: Written from the perspective of “someone like me,” Ben offers an authentic look at the neurodivergent experience.
- Building Resilience: Practical advice on how to raise children who are not just “supported,” but truly happy and resilient.
- A Path Forward: Guidance on navigating the unique challenges of disability while maintaining a focus on a “good oath” and a positive future.
“My goal,” says Ben, “is to help families navigate these challenges in a way that gives them hope and a clear path forward.”
Why Ben’s Voice Matters to UTS
At UTS, we put Youth at the Core. Ben’s expertise helps us refine our approach, considerations and how we ensure every young athletes feels seen and valued across our event delivery. By sharing his book, we aren’t just supporting an author; we are supporting a movement that aligns perfectly with our goal of community growth through sport.

Our Personal Review
“Reason for Hope does exactly what its title promises. By chapter three this book had already changed how I think. Ben Haack combines lived experience with genuine wisdom to deliver a deeply human guide that reminds us to think big, trust our judgement, and allow the people we love to be heroic on their own terms.”
