A Legacy of Leadership, Vision, and Inclusion
The United Through Sports family is deeply saddened by the passing of Jeff Webb, Founder and President of the International Cheer Union (ICU), following a tragic accident. Jeff was a visionary leader whose influence extended far beyond cheerleading, shaping the global sporting landscape and creating opportunities for millions of young people around the world.
Jeff was a pioneer in every sense. Through his passion, determination and leadership, he transformed cheerleading from a local student activity into one of the fastest growing global sports, reaching more than 120 countries and achieving recognition on the Olympic stage. His vision created pathways for young athletes to grow, perform and belong.
Our journey together began in 2018, when cheerleading joined United Through Sports at the very first UTS World Youth Festival in Bangkok. From that moment, ICU athletes became an integral part of our movement, bringing energy, creativity and a genuine spirit of unity. Under Jeff’s leadership, cheer stood alongside UTS in championing inclusion and celebrating youth of all abilities.
Over the years, this partnership continued to grow across UTS festivals worldwide. Cheer athletes played an important role in creating environments where children with and without disabilities, refugees and young people from all backgrounds could come together through sport. Jeff believed deeply in this mission. He understood that sport is at its most powerful when it opens doors, builds confidence and gives every young person a place to shine.
Jeff was not only a remarkable leader, but also a true friend to our movement. He consistently supported United Through Sports across our major events and believed strongly in our vision to place youth at the centre, creating positive opportunities through sport for all.
It has been our honour to collaborate with the International Cheer Union under Jeff’s leadership. His commitment to youth, inclusion and the unifying power of sport closely reflected the values at the heart of United Through Sports.
Those who knew Jeff will remember not only his achievements, but also his warmth, his generosity and his unwavering belief in the potential of young people. His legacy will continue to live on through every athlete he inspired and every opportunity he helped create.
United Through Sports extends its deepest condolences and sends strength to his family, friends and the entire global cheer community during this time of loss.
Jeff Webb believed in dreams, in youth and in the power of sport to unite the world. His impact will live on in every young life he touched including ours.
